LAtina Equal Pay Day
Latina Equal Pay Day this year is on 10/5/23. Latina Equal Pay Day marks the pay gap between Latinas and cis white men. Latinas make on average 57 cents to the dollar that cis white men make.
Before I go on, I do want to remind folks that Latinidad is an ethnicity, not a race. You can be White, Black, Indigenous, Biracial or Mixed Race and still also be Latina.
Ethnicity is a shared identity based on culture, language, etc. This is why talking about how culture makes an impact on how much Latinas make is important to note. Especially when being Latina comes with the culture of Marianismo and Machismo. I speak about Marianismo in detail on one of the episodes of the Healing with Jai podcast (coming back soon!) and I mention how Latinas represent the biggest demographic that’s driving the great resignation. And of course, sometimes it’s worth it to leave a job, especially if you don’t feel welcomed, or frequently dealing with microagressions and discrimination. Or just flat out not feeling fulfilled by your job. This is real life.
When folks come to me to work on their money issues, I always approach it from a holistic mindset. Mind, Body, Spirit. We take apart each of these topics, as all my sessions whether energy/womb healing or tarot are spirit led. We work through platicas, which is a heart centered, healing conversation based on curanderismo practices, and we dig deep to see where these money issues might be coming from.
latina equal pay day-MIND
First we talk about mindset. What was your childhood like when it came to money? Understanding that someone that might be unhoused as a child or had periods of being homeless may view money differently from someone that wasn’t. How did your elders view money. What did you witness when it came to your family discussing money or having money? And how do you feel like that impacts your feelings around money as an adult?
Our childhoods play an important part on how we view money now. These are some questions you can ask yourself while you meditate or are journaling.
Also, there are practical things that you can do to try to get your money up, including learning how to negotiate your salary and benefits package when you are interviewing for a new job, knowing your literal worth, and checking out places like glass door or salary.com to see what the average pay for your job in your area is. This can help you when you get to negotiating salary or a raise, or while looking for a new job. Sites like Indeed now show the salary range for positions as well, which is helpful while you’re on the job search.
There’s an article from the Havard Business Review that states that men apply to job typically when they know about 60% of the job based on the job description, but women won’t apply to jobs unless they know 100% of the job description. Let’s stop talking ourselves out of abundance, and apply to that job sis! The interview is a great time to see if the company is also a good fit for you in where you are in your life, and you can make a decision from there on whether or not you’d accept the role, or what it would take for you to accept the role. But don’t talk yourself out of that job by not even applying! Apply to all the jobs you’re interested in and if you have that 40% you’re not sure what how to complete, there’s always youtube, tiktok, facebook groups, I’m CONFIDENT that you can figure it out!!
latina equal pay day-BODY
Did you know that our bodies can hold onto trauma and emotions way longer than we realize? You might think you’re over the emotion or whatever your family member said when you were a kid, but your body might still be holding on to that emotion. And it can manifest as pain in your shoulders, or back and hips. Basically your body saying “hey we are not ok”.
This is why I love energy healing because it brings up to the surface what you feel like you might have forgotten. It gives you an opportunity to view the emotion from like a birds eye view and then allows you to release it. Sometimes when folks book an energy healing session or womb healing session with me they might not feel it right away but they feel it later on. And emotions might be purging as well.
Our energy centers can be affected by our childhood including our throat chakra (be seen and not heard) our solar plexus (lack of confidence) and of course the womb and root due to security and generational trauma. If you’re interested in working with me for a womb/energy healing session, check out my services here to book!
latina equal pay day-SPIRIT
Spiritual work for increasing your money includes doing ancestral work, and some money rituals like floor washes, or baths etc. I love doing money rituals, and one of the biggest and longest money ritual I did was burning ancestor money. I must have burned ancestral money weekly in front of my ancestral altar. Ancestral money helps to remove any blockages around money especially if it’s generational. I explain in this video on how money blockages might move in families. Of course divination via tarot and mediumship also helps to provide guidance on next steps.
Closing that wage gap that is marked by Latina Equal Pay Day either by yourself or as a collective is going to take real work. It’s not going to be easy due to these raggedy systems set in place to give a higher chance for failure. But it can be done as a lifelong commitment to yourself to break these blockages and open up the opportunity for abundance while leaving a legacy to your children.
